GDPR & Data Protection
Last updated: 15 July 2026
This page explains, in one place, how Flipside Promotions meets its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and, for DJs and listeners based in the European Union, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) — and how you can exercise your rights.
1. Scope of this page
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and why. This page focuses specifically on your data protection rights under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, and how Flipside Promotions, as a UK business with an international community of DJs and listeners, approaches compliance with both frameworks.
2. Data controller details
Flipside Promotions is the trading name of Franky Smith, operating as a sole trader.
- Trading address: 31 Poplar Road, Esher, KT10 0DD, United Kingdom
- Data protection contact: Franky Smith
- Email: privacy@flipsidepromotions.com
- ICO registration reference: ZC142786
3. UK GDPR and EU GDPR
Flipside Promotions is based in the United Kingdom and is subject to UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 for all users of the Services. Because our DJ community and audience are global, and we process personal data of individuals located in the European Union (for example, EU-based DJs applying for radio membership, or EU listeners), we also apply the standards of the EU GDPR to that processing. In practice, we apply one consistent set of data protection standards — modelled on the higher of the two frameworks’ requirements — to everyone who uses the Services, regardless of location.
4. Your data subject rights
Subject to certain exemptions and conditions set out in law, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances (also known as the “right to be forgotten”).
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data while a query or dispute is resolved.
- Portability — receive certain data you provided to us in a structured, machine-readable format, or ask us to transfer it to another provider.
- Objection — object to processing based on our legitimate interests, or to direct marketing at any time.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Avoid automated decision-making — we do not currently use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you (radio membership applications are reviewed by an administrator, not decided automatically).
5. How to exercise your rights
To exercise any of the rights above, email privacy@flipsidepromotions.com with your name, the account or email address associated with your use of the Services, and details of your request. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. We aim to respond within one month, as required by UK GDPR and EU GDPR; if a request is complex, we may extend this by a further two months and will explain why.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers — including our payment processor and hosting infrastructure — may process personal data outside the UK, and, where relevant to EU-based individuals, outside the EEA. Where a transfer like this happens, we rely on whichever lawful transfer mechanism applies: an applicable UK or EU adequacy decision recognising the destination country’s data protection standards as adequate; contractual safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses; or another lawful transfer mechanism recognised under UK GDPR or EU GDPR. See section 8 of our Privacy Policy for more detail.
7. Data breach notification
If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO (and, where relevant, other affected supervisory authorities) without undue delay and, where feasible, within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, in line with UK GDPR and EU GDPR requirements. Where a breach is likely to result in a high risk to you, we will also notify you directly.
8. How to complain
We hope we can resolve any concern you raise directly — please contact us first at privacy@flipsidepromotions.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority:
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
- European Union: the data protection supervisory authority in your EU member state of residence.
